In this special Global Women of Choice Awards Edition, we shine the cover spotlight on a woman who defied the odds, rewrote her story, and is now using the power of smart algorithms and innovative platforms to create opportunities for women worldwide.
When you hear the name Evelyn Oluchukwu today, what comes to mind might be a visionary techpreneur, a curator of impact, or a tireless advocate for women’s economic empowerment. But behind every powerful name is a story — and Evelyn’s is one of grit, grace, and the relentless pursuit of purpose.
A Journey That Didn’t Start With a Map
“I didn’t start with a vision board,” Evelyn says with a knowing smile. “I didn’t set five-year plans or outline SMART goals. Most of the best parts of my life were accidents I was brave enough to embrace.”
Raised in Northern Nigeria, Evelyn’s teenage years were spent in Goningora, Kaduna State. She was the young girl with big, unspoken dreams, who one morning packed her entire life into a black and yellow striped polythene bag and boarded a bus to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. She had no marketable skills, no qualifications, and definitely no connections. What she did have was an unshakable belief that life could be more than what she saw around her.
“In those days, I washed dishes. I cleaned homes. I did whatever I could to stay afloat while searching for my place in a world that didn’t feel designed for me.”

Yet even in those humble moments, Evelyn clung to a memory — a faded magazine picture of a computer labelled “The Most Powerful Machine in the World.” That image ignited a curiosity in her that never dimmed. “I remember thinking, if that machine is the most powerful in the world, then whoever can command it is unstoppable. And I wanted to be that person.”
An Accidental Tech Queen
Evelyn’s foray into technology was, as she describes it, “a lucky accident.” Without a carefully laid-out career plan, she made a spontaneous decision to study Computer Science, a choice that would ultimately shape her destiny. It was a world she instinctively understood — one where logic met creativity and possibilities were limitless.
Today, Evelyn is a seasoned independent tech contractor with decades of experience building smart algorithms and scalable platforms deployed globally. She has designed systems that automate processes, drive organizational growth, and create tangible solutions for real-world problems, and has worked for AI giants like Appen Global and on platforms like Facebook.
But what sets Evelyn apart isn’t just her technical brilliance. It’s her unusual commitment to using her skills for social impact — especially for women. “I’ve lived in northern Nigeria long enough to understand that when you empower a woman economically, you uplift entire communities. I’m proof of that.”
Telling Our Stories, Owning Our Space
Evelyn has spent nearly a decade standing for the economic growth of women, and in that time, one lesson has stood out: no two women’s stories are the same — and that’s our greatest strength.
“Telling our stories is revolutionary,” she says. “Even if no one reads it, writing it is a radical act of self-ownership. But when your story gets heard, when it gets recognised, something powerful happens. It validates not just your journey, but the journeys of countless women who walk a similar path.”
This belief inspired Evelyn to build digital platforms that spotlight, empower, and connect women across industries and continents. Her latest initiatives integrate AI-powered systems to give women access to higher education, mentorship, and career opportunities tailored to their unique ambitions.
The Future Is Female, and It’s Automated
Evelyn is a firm believer that technology will continue to shape the future — and that women must be at the forefront of this transformation. “We can no longer afford to sit on the sidelines. The nations that have invested in women’s education, recognition, and leadership have seen remarkable growth in their GDPs and national well-being. I’m on a mission to replicate that model, one platform at a time.”
She’s currently developing a groundbreaking AI-powered Open and Distance Learning platform designed exclusively for women. The goal? To make quality tertiary education and digital literacy accessible to every woman, no matter where or how she lives.
A Message to Every Woman Watching From the Sidelines
To the women flipping through this magazine and wondering if these glossy covers and inspiring profiles are meant for “them,” Evelyn has this to say:
“I want you to know that you can achieve anything you set your mind upon. It might be long, slow, and brutally hard. But by prioritizing yourself, owning your story, investing in personal development, and insisting on taking up space in any field you choose, you can turn the world into your oyster.”
“I’m rooting for you,” she adds, her voice soft but sure. “If a girl with no money, no certificates, and a black and yellow striped polythene bag can become this woman, then there’s nothing you can’t do.”
