Global Voice. Bold Stories. Amplify Her.
For every girl and woman who has ever experienced the slow dimming of her brilliance by those intimidated by her glow — this story is for you.
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set upon a hill cannot be hid.” — Matthew 5:14
Shanae Cooper knows what it means to radiate and to be resented for it. She’s learned that some people will try to unplug your light source — not because you’re failing, but because you’re shining too brightly. But in her words, “Don’t dim or adjust your brightness because of someone’s low voltage capacity. Shine louder.”“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set upon a hill cannot be hid.” — Matthew 5:14
The Rise of a Luminary
In 2022, Shanae was on fire. Her debut memoir, From the Root to the Fruit: Rising Above Adversities, launched like a rocket, earning widespread praise and opening doors across sectors. That success wasn’t luck — it was the harvest of years of persistence, creativity, and excellence.
At work, she was an unstoppable force — sweeping every academic competition: Sports Day, Best Mathematics Corner, Jamaica Day, Clean Classroom, and more. She poured herself into extracurriculars, mentoring students, speaking at schools from basic to tertiary, and representing her institution with poise and pride.
“I was giving more than I took — and pulling others up as I elevated.”
And yet, the brightest light attracts the darkest shadows.

The Attempt to Dim
In August 2023, Shanae was called in to review her appraisal scores. What she read felt like a betrayal. Despite her measurable success, she received the lowest scores — not due to lack of performance, but due to politics, envy, and perhaps the discomfort her brilliance caused.
“Can one person be so threatened by someone else’s light?” she asked. “Still, I vowed — no one would ever extinguish my shine.”
She didn’t retreat. She reframed.
Her reaction wasn’t vengeance — it was vision. Shanae doubled down on her purpose, proving that light doesn’t ask permission to shine. She reminded herself: “I am the head and not the tail. Above and not beneath.”
Blossoming Through Adversity
Her challenges became catalysts. What could have broken her instead birthed some of her most meaningful chapters:
- She launched the Shanae Cooper-Robinson Scholarship for Academic Excellence and Versatility.
- She continued empowering fellow educators, even around the very “E-portfolio” that caused her pain.
- She gained global recognition as a philanthropist and was nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award.
“There is purpose in your pain. In order for a seed to grow, it must be buried. Don’t complain about life’s tamarind — make tamarind balls instead.”
Shanae’s story teaches us that consistency beats sabotage. That we don’t need to retaliate with darkness — we respond with more light. When the environment isn’t conducive to your growth, grow anyway. Shine anyway.

A Revolutionary Reminder
Shanae’s journey is not just one of achievement, but of emotional resilience and spiritual rootedness. Her mindset reflects the essence of this issue’s theme. She models the very transformation we hope to amplify: turning pain into purpose, silence into voice, and rejection into redirection.
“Even when others try to pull you down while climbing, don’t give up. And when you reach the top, don’t return the favor — lift others up.”
In a world where many are told to be quiet, Shanae says: “Shine loud.” Not arrogantly, but unapologetically. Not for approval, but from alignment. Because the right people will be drawn to your light — and the wrong ones will be blinded by it.
