Meet Zahraa Alrafish, President of Arab Women United and a rising force in community empowerment. A social work student at Wayne State University, Zahraa embodies the heart of November’s theme: Built for Impact: Make Waves, Not Noise. Her story is one of grace, grit, and growth. A journey from translating her parents’ hopes into English as a child to translating those same values into opportunities for women across cultures today. With her calm yet commanding leadership, Zahraa reminds us that impact doesn’t always roar; sometimes, it speaks through compassion, consistency, and the courage to care.

Quiet Strength. Loud Impact.
Zahraa Alrafish stands as a powerful contradiction. A leader whose quiet strength reverberates through the lives of women she uplifts. As President of Arab Women United, Zahraa has built more than a nonprofit — she’s built a movement, one rooted in empathy, education, and empowerment.
Her passion for community work began long before she had a title or a platform.
“When I was young, I often served as a translator for my parents,” she recalls. “It taught me how to advocate — first for them, and eventually for others.”
Those early experiences shaped her understanding of leadership as service, not status.
Zahraa’s leadership philosophy reflects a deep blend of humility and conviction. One she had to fight to redefine.
“I had to unlearn the belief that humility meant silence,” she says. “Using my voice isn’t about ego; it’s about impact.”
That insight became the foundation of Arab Women United, a space where immigrant and minority women can learn, lead, and heal together.

At the heart of Zahraa’s journey is a mother’s unwavering faith. “My mother believed in me long before I believed in myself,” Zahraa shares. When she doubted whether her vision would resonate, it was her mother’s words that anchored her:
“Even one person’s life transformed is worth the effort.”
Today, Zahraa merges social work and entrepreneurship to create programs that strengthen communities from the inside out. She leads with the understanding that true power doesn’t demand attention. It earns it through authenticity, service, and vision.
In Zahraa’s world, impact is not about making noise. It’s about making meaning. And through her work, she continues to prove that when women lead with both strength and softness, they don’t just change lives, they redefine what leadership looks like.
